Associated Press Wrong Out of the Gate

No surprise. The Federal 9th Circuit Court rules against California's state constitution. The Associated Press gets it wrong. Not only does the AP call the California Marriage Amendment a "gay marriage ban" in their headine (and use the "ban" language in the text), but they make other mistakes as well:

The measure, which passed with 52 percent of the vote in 2008, outlawed same-sex unions just five months after they became legal in the state.
Wrong! Same-sex domestic partnerships are unions, and they have been legally sanctioned in California for many years. In addition, other "same-sex unions" were not illegal before that. These are all still legal. Nobody is stopping them! They are NOT outlawed!

The professional news media has been highly unprofessional in covering this issue.

  1. My latest post suggests that what is next is understanding DP's as well as marriage. Something we've been trying to do for a while, but this decision seems to affirm its necessity.

    1. Good question John, but you know you are still permanently banned for phishing and making thinly veiled threats.

Actually, it isn't a good question since clearly no one here thinks DP's and CU's are the same as marriage. They might recognize same-sex marriages, or other people's personal view of marriage just fine but the government interest in marriage is only preserved when it references the procreative union of one man and one woman.
