The Bangor Daily News reported that Patterson was the first of several Mainers expected to be sentenced for their roles in setting up sham marriages. According to court documents, she married a Kenyan man in 2003 and later recruited others to participate in the scheme. No thoughts on this yet, just wanted to post it before I forgot all about it.

This contradicts several central tenets of neutered marriage rhetoric:
ReplyDelete1) Neutered marriage activists claim that "heterosexuals" face no restrictions on marriage. That's clearly false.
2) Neutered marriage activists say that marriage is really an "any two consenting adults" relationship. If that's true, then these cannot be "sham marriages" since both adults clearly consented to the relationship. If one listens to neutered marriage activists, the only "sham marriages" they see involve "gays" or "lesbians" not conforming to the stereotypes neutered marriagists insist they must.
This example shows the danger behind neutered marriagists' unthinking rhetoric. It invariably would result in the destruction of marriage.
Marriage supersedes political boundaries. Governments acknowledge this fact in immigration law. If marriage were redefined to an "any consenting adults" model, Governments would not be able to stop "consenting adults" from circumventing immigration law. Government would then be forced either to abandon all immigration restrictions or to impose political boundaries onto marriage.
That neutered marriage activists are not thronging to defend these "consenting adult" marriages shows they never really believed their own claims.
