“Powerless Minority” Scares Off Big Time Law Firm

Once again, marriage neutering advocates have demonstrated that they are a completely helpless, powerless, oppressed minority in need of the federal "protection" of neutering state marriage licensing by scaring off a big time law firm from defending DOMA. James Oliphant reports in the Los Angeles Times.

In a highly unusual move, the lawyer retained by House Republicans to defend the law that denies federal recognition to legally married [same-sex] couples has resigned from his law firm after pressure from gay rights groups moved the firm to withdraw from the representation.

Paul Clement, the former U.S. solicitor general, made his resignation letter public - a decision that telegraphs the size of rift between Clement and his former employer, the well-known Atlanta-based firm King and Spalding.

He immediately joined a Washington-based firm, Bancroft, in order to continue representing the GOP.

So you're fine with YOUR tax dollars going to a $520/hour law firm rather than those who really need it, like the poor and unemployed.
I wonder if Jason has asked that question of the people who brought these lawsuits against the federal government in the first place?

"woof-woof" at 1:05 PM April 25, 2011:

So a law firm can defend pedophiles, murdering rapists, and terrorists, and no one makes a peep, but defend a law passed by the Congress elected by the people and the left goes on the attack.

How about we let the democratic process play out?

I used to be of the opinion that I don't care whether same-sex couples marry, but I don't take well to threats and intimidation. I don't trust people who will hound you out of a job for voting the same way as the majority in an election. It's a form of tyranny.

Yes, the homofascists, who certainly do not represent all homosexual people, have been very successful, demonstrating that their claim to being powerless, which is presented as a necessary component of their case for marriage neutering, is a false claim.

Consider how rapidly things have changed. Mind you, I support some of these changes.

1. The APA voted to remove homosexuality as being a disorder.

2. Laws against homosexual behavior were overturned.

3. Openly homosexual people are being elected to major office and appointed to major positions.

4. At least one mayor of a major city was willing to publicly and loudly flout the law to set up a court battle about marriage neutering.

5. The entertainment industry is decidedly on their side. Homosexual people and characters are overrepresented on television, with homosexual behavior being portrayed as positive and no different qualitatively from heterosexual behavior.

6. The news media is, self-admittedly, “in the tank” for marriage neutering.

7. Celebrities of any sort who make a disparaging comment about homosexual behavior or use a slur associated with homosexuality are fined by their employer or fired, sent to rehab/training, and issue public apologies and make public contributions to homosexuality advocacy organizations. (Most of the country identifies as Christian, but when was the last time you saw anything done about a celebrity using “Jesus Christ” as a swear-phrase?)

8. "Gay pride" events are openly and regularly held in various places around the country. (And while there are many great, normal citizens who are homosexual, nothing does more violence to the claim that the "LGBT" community is no different than the larger community than a gay pride event.)

9. States and localities have domestic partnership programs and protections for sexual orientation in housing and workplace discrimination, hate crime laws, etc.

10. Major businesses sponsor gay pride events and contribute to marriage neutering advocacy organizations.

11. Major businesses have been intimidated away from contributing (even through some intermediary) to political candidacies for politicians who don't support the neutering of marriage.

12. Employers voluntarily offer domestic partner benefits, sensitivity training, and sanction homosexuality clubs.

13. Several major professional associations have supported homosexuality advocacy.

14. The military "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy has been scrapped.

15. Schools all over the country have clubs based primarily on the homosexuality of some of the minor students. (This is in addition to the Drama or Theater club.)

16. Academia is "in the tank" for homosexuality advocacy.

17. The Boy Scouts of America organization has been barred from longstanding use of various public facilities per the request of homosexuality advocates.

18. In addition to religious denominations primarily organized to serve homosexual people, many "mainline" denominations have also embraced homosexual behavior and then neutering of marriage.

19. Marriage neutering advocates claim (in what would be a recent, dramatic shift) that a majority of Americans support neutering marriage.

So who, exactly, is powerless?

  1. I mentioned this before, I am still sympathic to the gay community yet you could agree 90% with them and still be a hateful bigot. Tolerance and acceptance isn't enough, what they demand is that we deny heterosexuality. As I said a millions times, men get women pregnant though heterosexual behavior. It's not about hate.
