It's all over the news today that a majority of Americans supposed support neutering marriage. I'd like to see the data and the methodology.
Most of this has already been covered here before.I'd really like to see the results of a slight variation of this poll.
The entertainment and media subcultures have been operating on the premise that if the public is bombarded with the message that it is unacceptable and bigoted to oppose the neutering of marriage (of course, never referred to that way but as "extending marriage to same-sex couples"), the percentage of people supporting it will gradually increase.
ReplyDeletePerhaps. But what they fail to realize is that what is also likely to increase--probably even more--with the bombardment of this message is the gap between what people tell pollsters and what they really feel (and only express in the privacy of the voting booth). By constantly telling the public that good, caring, fair-minded people cannot oppose SSM, it is very likely that you will get an increase in the number of people who tell pollsters that they support it only because they feel uncomfortable taking the "incorrect" position with someone whose view they are unsure of or whom they suspect feels the other way.
Hence, by trying to brainwash the public by bombardment, what the media and entertainment powers are really causing is a decrease in the reliability of the polls on the subject.
