I talking to my eight year old daughter this week, and while I had the eggs out of the refrigerator I informed her that, 'You know we have eggs to inside our bodies.'
'I know because we're mammals, but ours aren't hard like chickens. Ours are like turtles soft and squishy.'
Mammalian Reproduction and Offspring Care
Sexual reproduction does take time and effort, from finding a suitable mate to caring for young. Male mammals must compete for female attention. Because females want the fittest and strongest males, males will display their strength and fitness in ways such as fighting or elaborate ritualistic displays, in addition to physical characteristics, like having large antlers or a big mane.
Mammals generally invest heavily in raising their offspring and this determines how often they can breed. Many reptiles leave after laying eggs and never even meet their young compared with mammals that suckle their young and care for them for months or even years.

I would love to enter a dialogue on this and other evolutionary and sociological defenses of marriage. I reject evolution and believe that marriage between man and man does not exist. It is a farce.
ReplyDeleteHere is one post on my own blog I made, but it does not matter whether the discussion begins here or there.

I would argue that there is more to sexual relations than procreation. Your argument is that men and women are different. I agree. A homosexual activist would ask whether people who cannot procreate can or should marry?
Eslgedprep, You can see this post as one aspect of the discussion on marriage, not a complete thesis. Laws have to be objective, and be rational. Human sexuality, kinship, and other relationships are based on ideas are based on love. On a personal philosophical level I believe the whole purpose of humanity is to love one another, I can't legislate love though.
ReplyDeletewhat we can acknowledge through our laws is an obligation though, if we know that the act of copulation makes babies then shouldn't we want a legal concept that recognizes the involvement of both the maternal and paternal parent and to encourage commitment to any offspring prior to any sexual activity.

ReplyDeleteAn interesting topic for another day perhaps... because so many of the lesbians I know go so far out of their way to display exactly such male-like behavior. Tattoos on every limb, loud tough talking butch females... not unlike the stereotypical hyper-masculine jock frat-boys who try to dominate every woman in sight...
Sometimes I wonder, is it just plain jealously? That because they weren't born as dominant males, they project and lash out and try to dominate the females around them as if they were? Sometimes I think it's not so much that they only love other women so much as they resent they way men seem to lord over them... and THAT's what they want more than anything else... someone to master.
Marty there has been discussion in feminist circles, about the problem with feminist taking on the worst of male behavior in the name of equality. For example I man can leave a woman if she become pregnant, then why can't a woman equally abandon the pregnancy through abortion. Rather taking the best out of masculine qualities, such as men can be protective and woman should be equally protective of children.
