Teaching Conformity on Campus

As bad as it is to tell people what they can't say, it is worst to tell people what they must say. But worst still, and downright totalitarian, is to tell them what they must think and believe.

FIRE Video: Think What We Think...Or Else.

Among the terrible effects of this [orientation] program were 1) immediately to intimidate and humiliate students; 2) long term to teach conformity.

  1. One of the scariest aspects of this is how honest research and analysis about marriage & the family will be effected; especially in universities. Already extremely hostile environments to anything touching on the strict party line on gender (ask Larry Summers) – will, become almost impossible once the traditional family is declared “unconstitutional”. The small amount of dissent that is visible will dry up and further honest conversation will become impossible.

  2. By the way, if your readers aren't familiar with FIRE, they ought to go visit the website and give those folks support for laying bare the institutions of higher learning.
